Due to increasing prices of prime commodities, I thought of blogging about taking good care of our clothes. Our clothes will last longer if we learn how to care for them properly and we can save money too, for there will be less need to buy new ones.
Here are some reminders in taking good care of the family clothes.
- Polos, long sleeved or short sleeved should be hand washed as much as possible, among with the other delicate fabrics like dresses, etc.
- After using the clothes wet from perspiration or wetness from rain, hang them to dry first. Do not dump them in the laundry container. Putting them in the laundry container may cause moist to grow black or fungus stain in clothes. Such stain is hard to remove.
- Before laundering clothes, check if there are torn parts that need immediate mending or repairing. This is very common in our children’s school uniforms.
- Remove stubborn dirt or stains immediately. New stains are easier to remove than old ones.
- Segregate clothes according to colors and the less soiled ones to the dirtiest before washing them.
- Put your family office/occasion clothes and school uniforms on hangers in cabinets or closets. House clothes should be neatly folded before putting it into drawers or cabinets.
- Set the heat temperature of the iron according to the type of fabric that needs to be ironed.
- Set the washing machine spinner according to the type of clothes too, hard spinning can harm our clothes.
- Use ample amount of detergent soap when washing. Use of bleach is perfect for removing stains in clothes, but make sure you set aside the colored ones to refrain from accidental drops of bleach to your colored clothes.
- Never hang your colored clothes on direct sunlight, the color will easily fade.
- It is recommended to use a fabric conditioner too. It softens the fabric, gives fragrance and helps also in lessening the use of iron if the clothes are properly hanged.
