Potter- more the Harry Potter Mania

Me and my two sons are avid fans of JK Rowling and her Harry Potter Book Series. We enjoy reading her tales; in fact we have a collection of all the seven Harry Potter books added in our novel collection. The first book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the second book – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the third – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, fourth – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, fifth - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, sixth – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and seventh – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows.

After the final book of Harry Potter was released, another set of three related volumes followed, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. These three paperbacks are also of a good read.

The wizard school, wands, patronus, individual wizard talents, spells and the protagonists/antagonists are the highlights of the story.

The most common frequently spells used in the book that I can still remember are:

Accio – to bring an object to you
Alohomora – opens locks, such as doors
Avada Kedavra – the Unforgivable Curse that kills your opponent
Aguamenti – spell to create a gush of water from the tip of the spell caster’s wand
Crucio - the Cruciatus Curse which tortures your opponent mercilessly
Expecto Patronum – creates Patronus
Expelliarmus – the disarming spell to knock a wand out of opponent’s hand
Imperio – a curse that allows the user to assume complete control of another person
Lumos – to create light, making the tip of the wand glow. To have more light lumos maxima is used
Reparo – to repair broken items
Stupefy – to knock down the opponent temporarily

Reading, especially for children is a good habit to develop. As school time is on break, encourage your children to read more during their spare time. Novels like Harry Potter and the likes will not only expand children’s wild imagination but at the same time will improve their reading speed and comprehension. We can convince them to make reading a part of their daily routine through introducing exciting books to read.

i haven’t read any of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books but I have seen the movies. that’s my plan too, I want to indulge my son into reading this summer. We are starting with his children’s Bible. thanks for the visit mommy Joy!
