I already have mentioned in one of my previous posts about Lemongrass, as a natural mosquito repellent that can be planted on pots to help drive dengue mosquitos away from your home. I find out that there are more ornamental plants around that could be of big help and could combat the invasion of mosquitos and other insects that would bring ailments to the family.
Catnip is one of the most potent mosquito repellant plant. A plant that draws attention to cats but hated by mosquitoes and other insects such as ants, roaches, fleas and beetles. The leaves make a very soothing tea as it is an aromatic herb from the mint family. Studies show that it is more effective than DEET at repelling mosquitos. Crushing the leaves will release the aroma.
Rosemary, the herb we use for seasoning can be grown in pots inside the home or in your yard. Mosquitos hate the scent of this plant.
Marigold is an ornamental plant that produces attractive orange, red or yellow flowers. Aside from giving your garden an additional attraction because of its beautiful flowers, its fragrance also keeps aphids and mosquitos away.
Neem Tree leaves is also known to shoo mosquitos away.
Chamomile belongs to the family of daisies. Aside that it helps to fend off mosquitos away, Chamomile tea is used to treat insomnia, diarrhea and migraine while the oil extract is best for stomach aches and muscle pains.
So, next time you do gardening, consider planting some of these attractive plants that will give more benefits than just enhancing and embellishing the appearance of your garden’s landscape. Pretty ornamentals that also drive mosquitoes away.
