October 24th of each year has been marked as United Nations Day. Countries of the world observe this commemorative day. The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 and is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members best known for peace and security, development, human rights and humanitarian affairs.
There are currently 193 Member States in the United Nations. Each member state is a member of the United Nations General Assembly.
Festive celebrations often include a show of cultural performances; flags of the member countries are displayed in major highways and streets of the Metropolis while flag parade and showmanship of national costumes of different countries are one of the highlights in school activities.
Here is a photo of my youngest son taken 5 years ago when he joined his school’s contest in their search for Mr. and Miss United Nations where he gladly won.
