5 Family Shows to Watch on Netflix

While searching for a new show to watch, the other day I found myself asking, is Homeland on Netflix? As it turns out, it was, and I have been hooked ever since, but the R rated political crime drama isn’t really something that you can watch with your children and that led me to another conclusion; most modern shows that are any good are meant for adult audiences. Does that mean there aren’t any shows on Netflix that you can enjoy with your whole family without worrying about scarring your children for life? Thankfully, you will discover that’s not quite the situation at all while watching the following awesome family friendly shows on Netflix.

Once Upon A Time

The female protagonist finds out that her mother is Snow White and her father is Prince Charming and the town she lives in is filled with characters from the old fairy tales. The entire setting is in the modern world and it’s quite a refreshing and enjoyable little twist on the classic children’s tales. Although it’s completely kid-friendly, a few dark plots and interesting themes keep it from ever becoming too simple or childish.

Robin Hood

Created by the BBC, this is the version of Robin Hood where there’s just one rule, nobody kills anybody! Silly as it may sound, it’s actually quite enjoyable even for mature audiences. If you wanted a fun, medieval show with swords, axes and maces but no blood to enjoy with your children, you should definitely give it a watch.

Fuller House

It’s hard to make a list about family shows without mentioning the all-time classic super hit family TV show, Full House, but we are going to do one better and mention Fuller House instead. This Netflix original sequel to the classic was received very well by fans of the original Full House and new viewers alike on its release in 2016. It’s not a serious show and its objective is to warm your heart and give you a dose of nostalgia.

The Flash

If you want to throw in a dose of superhero action in your family TV (or Netflix!) time without making the mistake of watching the decent but ultra-violent The Punisher, Netflix has The Flash for you to enjoy. Not that Barry Allen was ever the most serious character in the DC Multiverse, but in comparison to shows like Arrow, this is most definitely a show meant to be watched with your family.

The Adventures of Puss in Boots

Shrek was a family movie series that everyone loves and The Adventures of Puss in Boots is no different. Puss is one of the most liked characters from the Shrek universe and most definitely the cutest. The show takes us on adventures with the cat and aside from catering to kids, it will throw the adults a joke every now and then to keep them engaged as well.

Netflix has a huge library and it’s hard to find the perfect show at times, but these five shows won’t let you down if you are looking to spend a few hours with the family. Some honorable mentions that did not make it onto the list include Stranger Things Season 1 and 2, Star Trek: The Original Series, Animaniacs and Merlin.
