How To Create A Contemporary Living Room

More and more of us are moving away from traditional styles in our homes. With so much twenty-first century technology around us, it is difficult not to find a need to upgrade. No room is safe from the changes all around us. Appliances, mobile devices, and smarter technological innovations have changed our home lives and lifestyles. They’re much different to how they were a generation ago.

When creating a contemporary living room, it’s necessary to consider the technologies we use. Televisions are much bigger these days. This requires a larger cabinet or table for it to sit upon. Traditional designs for these cabinets just don’t apply anymore. Instead, sleek and contemporary units with high gloss finishes are ideal. Some include glass doors for the storage area underneath so that the remote control signal reaches the attached devices.

Blu-Ray players and set-top boxes for streaming services are usually attached to the TV. You may also have a sound bar and surround sound speaker system. While the sound system may be connected wirelessly, there will be at least one part of it that needs to be mains powered. Lighting, charging points for your mobile devices, broadband and telephone all need electric sockets. Even newly built properties can be short on sockets.

To modernise your living room, you may need to install more electric points. This saves you the inconvenience of using extension leads. An electrician can install more sockets, and even install aerial connections in each of your rooms. They may be able to help you boost the reach of your wifi signal  too so you can be fully connected throughout your home. Chasing the extra cabling means your room can look tidy and minimalist without unsightly wires everywhere.

As more and more devices are wireless, there is a move to a cleaner, more streamlined finish for living rooms. Fireplaces used to be the focal point of the room fifty years ago. Now they are often used as an extra source of light. There are many different effects an electric fireplace can offer. There is no restriction regarding colour. And they can be placed anywhere in the room with no need for a chimney. Most seating is directed toward the TV or a social horseshoe shape.

Colours are stronger in the living room these days. Accent walls are still very popular. This colour is often picked up in contemporary style wall art, textured soft furnishings and patterned drapes. Carpets have been replaced with hardwood and tiled floors. This makes the house easier to clean and therefore more hygienic. With new underfloor heating technologies, this can also relieve the wall space of heaters and radiators.

Natural light is so attractive and so important in our homes. You might be interested in changing your windows for French doors to increase the light in your living room. It could also provide easy access to your garden and enhance the view to your outside spaces. French doors are a lovely way to bring the outside inside and increase your living space. How are you embracing contemporary living in your home design?
