I love to see fresh greens and flowers around. Not only that it gives a refreshing feeling but at the same time purifies the air around us. Since we are living in the city where there is short on space to make a traditional garden, I started to make a container or pot garden. However, container gardening also consumes most of the limited space. So, my son suggested why don’t we make a green wall, a DIY (do-it-yourself) Vertical Garden.
Due to the community quarantine protocol, we just look for home materials that we can utilize to continue with our customized green wall: vertical garden project.
Here are the materials we used:
- An old bed frame to hold our planters
- Empty soda plastic bottles. We only have small bottles and a few big bottles available, so these would be good for the meantime.
- Soldering iron, cutter, plastic straws, spray paint, scissors and tie wire.
- Garden soil and seeds. I wasn’t able to take photos of the seeds because I already started to germinate them before we make our DIY vertical garden project. The seeds I planted are: peppermint, parsley, and sweet basil.
Voila! our very own DIY Vertical Garden Project. A simple space saving and cost-saving tall garden that is easier to maintain.
Through planting upward, we will be equipped with enough space to grow plants and sustain my culinary needs. As I’ve mentioned above, I already propagated some of my herb plants through cuttings (photo shown above) and germinated herb seeds to get started. I still do not have enough big bottles and they are still empty as of this writing but I will be updating this post once my herb seedlings started to shoot out and has been transplanted.
Gardening is one of the best ways to make yourself busy especially now that we are still needed to be home quarantined because of the pandemic. Learning never stops even we are confined in the 4 corners of our home.
Stay safe everyone! Remember that Covid19 is not over until it is over.
