Moving into a new home is such an exciting time. It can be a little bit stressful, as there can be quite a lot to plan and organise. If you can pack and organise things in plenty of time, it will make the move so much easier. One of the best ways to do that is to clearly label your packing boxes. You’d be surprised at how many people don’t label their packing boxes! Put what is in them and which room that you want them to go in. Then when you get to your new property, the boxes can just go in the room they should. It saves them having to be piled up downstairs. Unpacking becomes so much quicker and easier too. So the number one tip would be to label your boxes.
Your new home might not look the way that you want it to. It is unlikely to find a house that is perfect for you unless you design and build it from scratch. So you might want to get decorating or redesigning shortly after moving in. If you do it sooner rather than later, it will mean getting your dream home in place faster. So if you make your plans before you move, it will make things easier to get started. A new home is the perfect time to start from scratch. So take this opportunity to have a freshly designed home and run with it!
If you start planning as soon as you know where you are moving to it helps a lot. It gives you an idea of how much you need to spend, and what equipment you will need to get. You might be able to take measurements when you have another viewing around the property. It is a good idea to take some photographs too. If you can’t take any measurements, then take them from your real estate agent. They will be able to get all of that information for you.
Have a look at some new home design tips, trends and ideas before you move. Think about colours and styles and look through plenty of magazines and home styling blogs. I find that creating a Pinterest board with some inspiration is always a good idea. You will have to adjust to the measurements of your home, but it gives some gorgeous inspiration. It is also a good idea to have an idea of which room will be redecorated first. You might not want to get everything unpacked in that room to start with if you’ll soon be painting it all.
When you are all settled and unpacked, there are some other things that you could do to finalise the move. Making a list of all the people that you need to notify is a good place to start. Think about family and friends, as well as things like banks, driving licences and subscriptions. Then you can work through the list, and get your address changed with all of those people. Good luck with your house move!
