Speed Up Your Slow PC!

Do you want to speed up your slowing pc? Here’s another tutorial on how to do it.
  • To speed up boot up or Start-up:
Click Start > then click Run > type: msconfig > click OK
System Configuration Window will open
Click on the Startup tab > uncheck or disable all except for your anti-virus > click apply then reboot your pc
  • Run a complete system scan using your anti-virus, but before you do so, make sure that your anti-virus is updated.
  • Do not install two anti-vruses at the same time, aside from the result of slowing down your pc, your anti-virus will not function effectively.
  • Defrag your hard-disk.
Over time, new files get written to your hard disk and you delete the old ones. Sometimes the new data doesn’t quite fit in the gaps and some files get written in multiple areas on the hard disk and because the hard drive has to scan multiple parts of the the disk to read a fragmented file, it can slow down the operation of the computer.
Defragmentation can optimize the hard disk, which places similar files in similar location. Contiguous files are read more efficiently by the hard drive and therefore lead to faster data access.
  • Use of other utilities or applications.
I am using Advance System Care.  I availed the professional version but you can download a free version for a start. It is easy to use.  It cleans, configures and optimizes your pc.
The program’s Quick Care option includes the ability to clean your Registry, perform a rudimentary malware scan, fix and remove broken shortcuts, delete junk files, and erase browsing tracks.  Scan time will vary depending on which options you choose, which can fix up to 10 problems simultaneously.
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it’s fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!
You may choose among the two, in my case I am using them alternately.
  • Windows Disk Clean Up tool
In case you do not want to use the first two utilities, you can use the Windows disk clean up tool. It will help you free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer.
You can find the Disk Clean Up tool by clicking Start > go to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup
  • Check on your disk files. Delete files that you no longer need, or back it up in another external hard disk or burn a copy of it.  Hard disks nearly full will slow down your pc as well.

For more inspiration, sometimes I think about taking ongoing computer classes to stay sharp. My eldest son is a graduate of BS Information Technology and he really enjoys his job. With my youngest son, I encourage him to earn a computer science major, since technology is at the heart of all employment. My husband, children and I  are computer users, definitely we enjoy using  a well-maintained pc, especially if it is not slow.
Happy Computing!
