Top Tips for Decorating Your Home This Spring

Spring cleaning is an age-old tradition to get rid of the soot and dirt that has built up over winter. Nowadays, lots of people like to take this tradition to the next level and redecorate to freshen the place up for the sunnier months. There are, of course, lots of things that can be done around the house to give it a new lease of life. Here are some top tips to get you started.

Decorating Your Home This Spring

Clean Up the Garden

Hopefully, with summer just around the corner, you’ll be able to spend some additional time outdoors and potentially host some BBQs. With that said, it’s a good idea to clean up the garden. Check your fence panels for damage and be sure to repair or replace any that need it and do the same with your decking. Cut back any unruly hedges and trees and maybe even plant some new bulbs and seeds.

Bring the Outside In

A great way to decorate for spring is to bring the outside in. This could simply be a vase filled with daffodils, or floral soft furnishings. Another idea is to grow your own herbs in the kitchen. Plants and flowers have been proven to boost mood and they look great so it’s a win-win situation.

Renew the Flooring

Floors get scuffed and scratched, there’s nothing anyone can do about that, but you don’t necessarily have to install new flooring to fix the problem. You could potentially paint the floor or invest in a colourful rug for spring.

Add a Fresh Coat of Paint

Lighter coloured walls are great for making a space feel brighter and bigger, so a quick coat of paint might be all your home needs to spruce it up this spring. Start with the ceiling and architrave, then paint from the top down with your roller. You’ll also need all of the right materials, like brushes, tapes, fillers, and other tools, but it should be a fairly affordable way to update your home.

Replace Your Doors

Another way to freshen up your home is to replace your old doors with new ones. If your budget is a bit slim, you could just give your old doors a new coat of paint.

Lay a Stair Runner

If you have slippery, wooden stairs, laying a runner will solve that problem for you, while also adding a splash of colour and personality.

Build Shelving

You can never have enough storage, so why not build some extra shelving into any alcoves or awkward corners? This will allow you to make the most of your space and help you clear up the clutter.

Clean Your Windows

A simple mix of warm water and vinegar is an easy way to clean up your windows and wiping them with newspapers afterwards should prevent streaks. If necessary, you might even want to install new windows, especially if you don’t already have double glazing, as this can keep your home a more comfortable temperature year-round.

Upgrade Your Kitchen

If budget permits, you might want to upgrade your kitchen this spring, as this is the room in the house that receives the most wear and tear. Doing so should help increase your property value, which is ideal if you think you might want to sell the property in the coming months or years. You don’t necessarily have to replace everything; you could simply paint your cabinets a new colour to transform the space.
